Lighting, please?

So, I didn't fare much better with the lighting situation on Sunday either. I was leaving Meijer after searching desperately for a new mirror. Since moving into my new apartment, I haven't had a mirror and have generally just been getting dressed and hoping for the best. But, wanting to do a serious deep cleaning of my closet, I needed a mirror to assist with the process of figuring out what needed to go and what could be altered and what should stay stay stay. So anyway, leaving Meijer, the sun was setting and I really wanted to get my pictures in before that happened. So I trotted over to a grassy area just beside the store. Yes, I took my outfit pictures next to Meijer. There were probably more than a few people who thought I was a total nutty person. Buuuut I'm learning to not care. As you can see, I was really struggling though to figure out where to place the camera in relation to the setting sun and my body. I swear I will figure these things out one day...

gRainy Day

It rained all day on Saturday. And by the time I decided to take my outfit pictures inside, it was pitch black out. I struggled a lot with the lighting and the pictures are ummmm not great, shall we say. But I figure if I keep documenting all of these failed attempts at taking pictures of myself, I'm setting a nice low bar. So when I post halfway decent pictures, everyone will be amazed. What can I say? That's just how I roll.

Labor Day Leopard

While I was visiting my brother and sister-in-law for Labor Day, they showed off their new fancy pants SLR camera that they bought in preparation for my niece's grand entrance into the world! Well we of course ended up taking pictures. And I of course made them take several of me by myself. I have to take advantage of situations like this! And then several days later, I of course had to spill the beans to my sister-in-law about the blog in order to get the pictures. So here they are in all of their Labor Day splendor! You will notice when my brother started choosing my poses for me. That's when things REALLY get attractive.

This picture is special to me, because I'm growing my mother out of my head. This is of course a trick that I reserve for only the most special of occasions. Like Labor Day.

You Changed the Rules on Me

An old friend of mine recently sent me an email asking if I still kept a journal. She'd gone back and read my old old livejournal and felt that I should still be writing and chronically my thoughts. That flattered me immensely and gave me more motivation to keep up with this blog and make it something totally real for me. The desire to write in a more public forum again was one of the biggest motivating factors in starting this blog in the first place. But that email also made me a bit sad and nervous in a way. The years of my life that I kept that livejournal were not good years in my life. The writing was not always happy. It was true and it was honest - something that I promised I would be, to myself and to others always. Having that journal lurking out there is a reminder of what I've been through and how far I've come. It's also a reminder of how far I can sink. I mostly like to think that these days things are infinitely better. And for the most part, they are. But I still have my days. I still find myself wandering in unfathomable depths at times. And I suppose ultimately, it's good to remember that too. To remember that I am human, that at times I will stumble and at times I will fall flat on my face. Also to remember that no matter how far I go from that self, I will always be that self. Last night I went and read those old old entries, and so much of what I had written those years ago, still rings true today. So I suppose I'm here to remember who I am, and to learn who I will continue to be, because the spectrum all eventually amounts to the one person that is me.

If you're here reading this, I hope that the self exploration doesn't become tiresome. Because I frequently find myself having to start all over again. Once I feel I've gotten a handle on the Rules and can Trust what will be around the corner. The Rules change, the Trust is dashed, and I'm left scrambling to find my footing all over again. That's what Reality is, I suppose.

A Symphony in Brown

So here's the thing. I really did take pictures on Friday. It was very awkward, I tried to do them quickly out on the patio while my roommate was supposed to be taking a nap, but her "nap" lasted all of five minutes, so I think she probably saw me going back and forth from my camera out on the patio and probably now thinks I'm a total crazy person. But whatevs. On top of that, the pictures really really sucked. And the outfit wasn't really that great either. I totally did the super causal Friday thing. So casual and comfy that I wore the exact same outfit again on Saturday. Yes, I do that. Until, of course, I changed for the Lady Gaga show. My roommate took some pictures of that, just because she wanted pictures of my Lady Gaga outfit. Once I get them from her, I will post them. Until then, you can just admire my fun nails that I did for the show.

Today, I attempted to take pictures on my own again, and with minimally better results. Please excuse the awkward, mildly angry, morose looking faces. I don't do well with self timer photos obviously. Also please excuse my barren apartment, we're still settling in.

Despite the story that my face is telling, I actually had a very nice day. I got new towels and a bath mat(!) at Target today. I've never owned real bath towels or a bath mat until this day. I previously used old beach towels to serve both functions. I feel like a new woman! I'm also currently lounging on my freshly washed bedding with a brand new pillow swapped in place for a ratty old one. And I have a day with my family to look forward to tomorrow. Life is good. Generally speaking.

Maybe tomorrow I'll even convince my brother to take some outfit pictures of me! But that would require me telling him and the rest of my family, by association, what I'm up to with this blogging business. I'm not totally sure that I'm ready for that. We'll see.....

Finally! I'm posting again after how many eternities? I'm not sure, but I think it's probably a lot.

These pictures were actually taken long ago before I moved into Chez Fancy Pants. And while that move happened a MONTH ago, I am still slowly working my way through all of my boxes. This means two things. 1) I don't have nearly enough time to myself and 2) I own WAY too much stuff. I am hoping to actually make significant strides toward remedying both of these problems. I have some serious purging plans in store for both my objects and my extra curricular activities.

On the day that these pictures were taken, the sky was clear and sunny, the birds were singing, and my photographer was still in the country. Bliss. Today, the sky is gray and wet, the birds are taking cover and perhaps starting to pack their bags to move South for the coming Winter, and my photographer has gone home for a very long vacation, leaving me to fend for myself with a tripod. Opposite of Bliss. We'll see how that goes.

Also, guess what else happened today? If you guess that I was hit by a car in the parking lot at work by a woman who claims I was in her blind spot but who I'm pretty sure meant "I didn't look at all before reversing at high speeds" then you would be 100% correct and would be deserving of lots of wonderful prizes. Sadly, I have nothing to give you. But I do have a nice new dent in my car. Poor Sheena (my car). She may be a punk rocker, but I don't think she appreciates the abuse. Speaking of Sheena and abuse, I'm thinking it's time to finally get her a new set of wheels in the next week or so. Perhaps that will help soothe her emotional and physical wounds.

Well, until tomorrow, when I brave the solo photo shoot. Preferably not in the rain.
